Contemporary, Real, Lambent & Iconographic are all terms that have been used to describe Lyall Astons work. He claims that there is not a single shaft of light that he hasn't wanted to capture for eternity.

 

the beginning
Growing up in the very cosmopolitan city of Cape Town, Lyall had a strong desire to explore the world and from a young age he began traveling the globe. Each country brought new textures, tastes, colors and luminosity. Beauty is all around us.

discovery
From the beauty of the African Deserts to the lushly colorful Greek Isles to the monochromatic Milanese cityscapes, the robust flavors of Singapore to the hustle and bustle of New York City. Shooting on location in London, Paris, Barbados, Istanbul, Bali and back again, Lyall discovered life and the beauty of all it encompasses while modeling for Diesel, Levis, Wrangler & Ralph Lauren.

 

evolution
Along the way he picked up a camera and starting capturing what previously he could only describe to his friends and family. His keen sense of beauty and an eye for detail soon focused his passion as Lyall began shooting for many of the clients he had previously modeled for. The evolution was complete.

With his nomadic tendencies Lyall embraced the lighting he learned to love in different hemispheres and altitudes and took this back to the studio. In the NY studio Lyall tweaked, caressed and layered the light that he had once relied on only in nature. As an adept Master of Lighting Lyall uses this as his foundation to suit all photographic scenarios.

Lyall draws his inspiration from all around him and strives to see the beauty in everything, thus the honesty and modernism of his work.
