Meredith Baraf's approach to makeup derives from her simple belief that beauty precedes innovation. As an artist, she is a favorite among celebrities, models, fashion houses and photographers, not only for her gentle and generous nature, but for her inspired ability to reveal each of her subject's unique beauty while expessing mood and meaning in their eyes. Through her college studies in psychology and comparative religion, Meredith developed a powerful understanding of people that has aided her success in an artistic craft that strives to make inner beauty and character visible to the naked eye.
Meredith has experienced the makeup industry from many perspectives. She worked her way through college as a freelance artist for MAC Cosmetics and became an executive market planner for the MAC division of Estee Lauder following graduation. Armed with knowledge, experience and passion, she set out to establish herself as a freelance artist on television, film, and music videos. In early 2002, she redirected her career, assisting many top artists in the industry on photo-shoots and runway shows, further seasoning Meredith as a notable makeup artist.
Her portfolio not only includes work for the pages of Vogue, Vogue Italia, Harper’s Bazaar, and other fashion beacons, it also comes with a degree in psychology and comparative religion. Perhaps it is the insight she gained from her studies that allows her to empathize with people on a personal, as well as professional level—a trait that has made her apt at revealing a person’s character and inner beauty through her work. Widely regarded as an authority on beauty, Meredith’s expertise and artistic prowess have been sought out by brands like Victoria’s Secret and Clinique, as well as by top industry photographers including Annie Leibovitz, Brian Bowen Smith, Max Vadukul, among others.

Make-up artist Meredith Baraf shared great holiday tips with us! She works with the Victoria's Secret models often so I'm sure you have seen these looks of the gals!
My holiday make-up trick for this season, is to start on you New Years resolution early. Women often wear a particular make up look as either a translation of what kind of woman they are or how they want to portray themselves to the world. Let the you that you love shine through, which also means dont paint yourself, accentuate yourself. My one disclaimer to this advice is, if the true you is full of spunk, make sure not to overdo it. (If you are expressing yourself loudly through your holiday party ensemble, then a bit of balance should be the mantra for your makeup (no sequins dresses and glittered faces, please). Below are some ideas of make-up looks to sport based on WHO the new you or the Im still proudly me is for 2012.
- The smoky eye (and I am referring to the smudgy blended smoky eye, as opposed to the spackled black all around the eye) makes the eye stand out as the darkened area around it visually recedes. Achieve this look with blending! The message is of a sultry woman with a good sense of her own sexuality and inner power.
- Red lips tell the story of a woman without fear.
- The cat eye relays the message of self-awareness and of a woman with a bit of mystery, who may not let you in without proving yourself to her.
- Nude lips are worn by a woman who understands balance, doesn't feel the need to overstate, and still succeeds at accentuating her pout.
- False lashes are flirty and are worn by a woman who knows how to be subtle yet seductive. Lashes are a great add to any holiday look.
- Bold brows are a sign of strength and of a women who likes structure.
- Rosy cheeks display a youthful enjoyment of life and a playful naivete.
- Glossy lips are a symbol of sensuality and confidence and are worn by women who are ready to engage...in conversation.
- Bronzed skin reflects a woman's exotic nature. A sunless spray tan is a great base for most make-up looks. Its the perfect pre-prep to both decreased getting ready time right before the party, and less body make-up transferring onto your dress or your date.
- Colored eyeliner is worn by a woman who isn't afraid of taking risks and is always ready for a bit of fun.
- Shimmer/sheen is a clue that a woman knows her assets and wants to show her inner glow.
- Glitter is an indicator that a girl "just want's to have fun"!!
- Minimal makeup, when worn purposefully, is a clear sign that a woman has a strong self-image and knows how to accentuate the positive, while allowing her natural radiance to tell her story.
